Last Day

I am an individual who is not Technically Savvy. Since I am not in the classroom all the time a lot of the Tech Training I do not take part in. This class has done wonders to bring me up to date again. I was very nervous about one on ones and how I could be a part of this new wave in education. I feel very confident now there will be a means to have more contact with students through the new technology. This is something I miss from no longer being in the classroom every day. This class has given me a bunch of ideas that I can apply to school this year.

Day 4 Applications

I have spent much of the day working on my website. My goal was to get some items like the Course Curriculum Guide on this website. It took some time but I finally figured it out. I also created another Livebinder with all of my websites for testing and all the websites I don't use everyday.

Flipped lessons

I have finally had some time to work on some flipped lessons through Ed Ted and You Tube. I do really like the ease of doing this. It is definitely something I will be spending more time on to create lessons for going into the classrooms. I do still have a concern for flipped lessons and students access at home for younger grades. I am also becoming very comfortable with the Live Binder. I like how you can organize everything in one spot and access it anywhere. Blogging is becoming a little easier for me as I continue to do this every day. I tend to like one on one communication and face to face. My next step is to organize my websites through Symbaloo.

Flipping the Classrooms

The first two articles support flipping the classrooms and this makes complete sense to me. I believe students will watch a video of a teacher over listening to them in person. I hope this is the case, because I know students do not read their textbook homework assignments. Giving students and teaches the time in class to work on projects and answer questions is what the article "The Digital Sandbox" discusses. From the teachers comments on a daily basis they would love this. They never have enough time to help all the students who need help. This also opens up supporting PLE Personal Learning Environments. Which leads into making students responsible for their own learning.  I believe students usually excel when they are put in charge of their own learning. The last article "21 Things That Will Become Obsolete in Education by 2020" discusses many items that I was not surprised to be predicted to be obsolete. The things that did not surprise me were desks, paper, HS Algebra I, outsourced web mastering, lockers as a coat check and paperbacks. Items that surprised me and I am not in complete agreement with are attendance bio scans, role of standardized tests for college admission, typical cafeteria food, centralized institution and homework 24/7. I do not doubt these areas will be changing. I just don't think they will be this extreme of a change by 2020. I am really excited about the potential of what can happen for our students with the flipped classrooms.
Common Core is the new wave in education. I think the ideas behind it are solid. Anytime people have to make changes it is difficult and uncomfortable. I feel people are unsure of all the expectations and this leads to people being apprehensive. It theory it would be wonderful if students in  all parts of a state or in the nation are at the same point in materials at the same grade levels. Even if everyone is striving to do this it will not happen every year with every class, because we are human and every student and class has their strengths and weaknesses. I believe we have just learned this lesson with "No Child Left Behind". I hope all educators keep an open mind and do what they do best teach the students the skills they need  to be successful in the world today.

NETS Standards

The NET Standards are very important  today. One area I would like to work on improving  in our school are the ethics involved in using technology. Specifically teaching students how to make wise choices for what they put out on social networks. Trying to make them realize how broad the impact can be for things they don't think through before publishing. Another area I would like to increase the students awareness of is plagiarizing materials. They truly don't seem to understand it is unethical to steal someones words. The student NET standards my thoughts are related to are 5a,b,c&d Digital Citizenship and 6a,b&d Technology Operations and Concepts.

Social Bookmarking

This seems to be a very helpful tool, but as always will take some time to sit down and organize.

Article 3 LMS Miss the Mark

Unfortunately as all educators know SIS systems are not user friendly. The percent satisfied with these systems shows this. LMS systems tend to show a greater satisfaction from teachers. Lack of training and lack of time seemed to be sited as the main problems with the use of these systems.

Article 2 LMS Take On a K-12 Roles

This article describes the differences between a CMS system and a LMS system. A CMS system holds curriculum content but does not have the interactive features. The LMS seems to be a step up holding both the course content and allowing for the interaction between the student and teacher with test, quizzes and discussion boards.he text book based LMS online tools seem to also be very limited.I believe the LMS systems will be  better suited for core standards. LMS systems that allow the most amount of flexibility will work the best for teachers to collaborate and work on core standards together. This is very important for Middle School and High School as we move to Core Standards. Many teachers at the MS/HS levels will need this flexibility to meet these Core Standards.

Article 1 Learning Management System Day 1

This article discusses the various forms of learning management systems. The conclusion I have drawn from this article is that an LMS, VLE or an LCMS system cannot stand alone. In order to serve the classroom in the best format you must use a combination of these systems together. One of these tools cannot do everything you need for a classroom. The new trend is to have an integrated system called a Talent Management System. Technology is growing so quickly the education community is going to have to spend time and energy to choose their LMS systems very carefully.
